madoka means mister
started watching puella magi madoka magica with friends. which i'd heard a lot of very good things about! wrt doomed love, lesbianism, timeloops, etc the animation is soooso cooooooool... i love all the crazy formalist sets especially. madoka's insane school... madoka's insane bathroom... the establishing shots for the cafe... the first episode i was not entirely sober but there was this one shot of a dark room that we kept rewinding over and it was freaking us out because we kept noticing the messed up chairs and the weird architecture and then one of us pointed out the fact that none of the walls met the ceiling and the stage lights so this was part of a set and then we had to pause because one of us was having a panic attack and rest of us were becoming deeply terrified. anyway it's very good BUT i keep getting compared to the homophobic third that goes like "but.... but you're both girls?!" and "don't you see... your love isn't meant to be...!" and then runs off daintily. tbh... sorry hitomi. i guess we are one

it's interesting to see how they tackle the more abstractly animated scenes because they can't elegantly show interactions between different media. so a lot of it is done by clever cross-cutting but the witch combat still feels a little stiff in a very interesting way... i want to dissect this thing and store it piecemeal in various jars of goop. and cackle, maniacally
