thank god i've been craving more black midi-type art rock. but i think the only reason i'm not rating this higher is because to me it's very much in the shadow of black midi, especially schlagenheim—they both draw from similar places stylistically & thematically. wish i could consider it on its own! it'll come in time.

but where black midi is obsessively artsy, i like that this album lets itself be fun. the vocals annoyed me a little at first but they're part of the vision. i can't tell if you're supposed to get the sense that there's a narrative eluding you, as in black midi. nice—means i get to pick at it for a few months more.

gsk. very gorillaz plastic beach. boy racers. the ending is terrifying! love it! i wonder why it's placed here. paddling. fun lyrical trick at the start, echoing slightly wrong. nice intro to the song's imagery while nudging the themes of authority established in narrator—it makes me think of some evil boss and his henchman. this might be my favorite track, it evolves really well. 2010. i really like the way this album layers vocals—they're always in different tones of voice and it really works for the sense of disorientation its angling towards. pamphlets. second favorite, it's just plain good. big fan of the way it just ends.

i adore this album's imagery. shoutout the uk for doing something to people (?)
